Therapeutic trial

Computerized capnography allows realistic therapeutic trials to assess patient sensitivity to any bronchodilating drug (delay, potency and duration of action).

Example of terbutaline trial test

Trends of 2 capnographic indices

t 0
Bronchospasm
S2=0.80
PEF= 180

Capnogram before therapy

t 1

S2 = 0.52
PEF = 350

Capnogram after 2 puffs of terbutaline

30 minute capnographic monitoring.
Trends of two indices before (t0), between (t1) and after (t2) two inhalations of terbutaline
(1) and (2).
Repeated measurements of PEF.

t 2

S2 = 0.44
PEF = 450

Capnogram after 2 additionnal puffs

Rapid improvement in capnographic assessment and expiratory flow
within a few minutes of terbutaline inhalation
